Memories and some lessons
22 Sept., 2008
The pain is still sharp one month later. It catches me unawares, brought on by her voice chanting slokas in my head, so close, I can almost see her. Standing in the puja room, oblivious to the world, while I sometimes waited somewhat impatiently for her to complete 'naivedya', offering the food to the gods, so that I could have my turn....
Sometime this year, maybe it was when we were discussing the shanidosha in my horoscope, she announced with conviction, 'Your star in mrigashira..your horoscope says that you will be a maha purusha one day.'
One her sick bed, she would suddenly put her finger to chin. 'I wanted to tell you something...', she would smile sheepishly. 'Oh, I forget what it is now.'
What did you want to tell me, mother? Speak to me now...
Some Lessons
Live in the moment - celebrate everyday as if it were your last. Spend time with your loved ones, for you or they will not be here tomorrow.
Just as there was birth, so will there be death. The body is in the middle of the journey of the Atman...before birth there was Atman, and after death, the Atman will continue its journey

While the harsh reality strikes on losing close ones, it is very very essential to cherish the moments that we live amongst our loved ones.I was choking on reading some of your very intimate & personal experiences.
Just a year or so ago, a close friends Mom passed away who had similarities with your Mom in many ways. Though, I interacted very few times with her, the impression she has left upon me is bountiful.
As soon as I finish this comment, I am recommending this blog to my youngest brother to emphasise the fact of how fortunate is it that our dear Mother, (just like any Mom, has sacrificed so much to bring up 6 siblings and has her share of health issues) is around us & the very fact of how fragile and important are life's closest connections that can exist one moment and gone in a flash.
Thanks for sharing these crucial life experiences in a profound manner. I am sure your Mom is resting peacefully for all the good things she did with you all and the community in many different ways.
